The end of the holidays in eastern Austria, parts of the Netherlands, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic will once again lead to considerable traffic jams and delays on Austria’s south-north and east-west connections, the ÖAMTC warned in a press release on Wednesday.
There will be delays at the borders with Germany and in front of the Karawanken Tunnel, near Spielfeld and Nickelsdorf, in the direction of Austria. Various major events will cause difficulties at regional entry and exit points. The Tauern Autobahn (A10) will once again be the most congested route, especially in front of tunnels and toll stations. There will also be heavy traffic on the Brenner motorway (A13), the Pyhrn motorway (A9), and the West motorway (A1).
Events will further increase traffic on Sunday
On Sunday (August 31), several events will also take place in Austria. Due to the Ötztal Cycle Marathon, there will be delays on the following routes: Sölden – Oetz – Kühtai – Kematen – Völs – Innsbruck – Sonnenburgerhof – Schönberg – Matrei am Brenner – Steinach am Brenner – Gries am Brenner – Brenner – Sterzing – Jaufenpass – St. Leonhard in Passeier – Timmelsjoch – Sölden.
Due to the Ironman Zell am See-Kaprun, the Pinzgauer Straße (B311) between Bruck and Lend and the Hochkönig Straße (B164) between Dienten and Saalfelden, among others, will be temporarily closed to traffic.
On Sunday, numerous connections around Lake Wörthersee will also be closed due to the “Kärnten Läuft” running event, including the Velden-Ost junction of the Süd Autobahn (A2). There will also be numerous diversions between Klagenfurt and Velden.
Tulln Horticultural Fair over several days
From August 28 to September 1, 2025, the Tulln Horticultural Fair will also take place at the exhibition grounds in Tulln. Temporary delays are to be expected on the access and exit roads, such as Tullner Straße (B19).
